History

From Barren Upland and the Haven of Hope

Haven of Hope Christian Service (Haven of Hope) was found on a barren upland by a group of foreign missionaries in 1950s. Formerly called Junk Bay Medical Relief Council, Haven of Hope began by providing medical relief for refugees coming to Junk Bay (near Tseung Kwan O) from Mainland China. The work of Haven of Hope quickly accelerated in scale as it began to assist the community as a whole.
In the past 70 years, the Haven of Hope has undergone many changes. Today, our service scope covers 4 key areas: Elderly Services, Rehabilitation Services, Health Care Services, Evangelistic Work.

Elderly Services

The trend of ageing in Hong Kong is irreversible. To cater for the manifold needs so derived, HOHCS renders day care, home care, community service as well as residential service.

Rehabilitation Services

We strongly believe that each of us is born equal and that we are all invaluable and have our own talents. People with disabilities are just the same. To help them excel their potential and provide them with appropriate care and training, HOHCS renders early education and training, special education and boarding service, day activity centre cum hostel, community rehabilitation day centre alongside integrated vocational rehabilitation.

Health Services

Holistic care is the essence of HOHCS’ primary health services. In our district clinics, community health development centres, Haven of Hope Hospital, Haven of Hope Sister Annie Skau Holistic Care Centre, we rely on our trans-disciplinary professionals to care for our service users in physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects.

Educational

In response to our Christian faith, the founder of HOHCS, Sister Annie Skau set up a makeshift clinic on the barren land of Tiu Keng Leng to heal the patients with tuberculosis. Sixty years have passed but Christian faith remains as the crux of HOHCS’ service. In view of this, pastoral care is provided not only to our service users through our chaplains, but also to our staff. Professional counselling, prayer meetings, short missionary trips to Shaanxi (where our founder served for over 13 years), etc. are available to staff so that workplace is also full of love and caring.
