From Barren Upland and the Haven of Hope

Haven of Hope Christian Service (Haven of Hope) was found on a barren upland by a group of foreign missionaries in 1950s. Formerly called Junk Bay Medical Relief Council, Haven of Hope began by providing medical relief for refugees coming to Junk Bay (near Tseung Kwan O) from Mainland China. The work of Haven of Hope quickly accelerated in scale as it began to assist the community as a whole.
In the past 60 years, the Haven of Hope has undergone many changes. Today, our service scope covers 4 key areas: Elderly Services, Rehabilitation Services, Health Care Services, Evangelistic Work.
From October 2016, the Social Welfare Department will provide eligible elderly people with access to appropriate community services in the form of vouchers for the elderly to choose accredited service providers in the community.

HAVEN OF HOPE CHRISTIAN SERVICE Practice the spirit of “holistic care”, We are committed to providing quality services to Hong Kong residents, especially those in need in the community. According to individual needs, comprehensive support services are provided so that the elderly can stay at home to enjoy their old age as they wish, and support carers to take care of the elderly in their homes and relieve their stress so that they can live a more comfortable life.

The five elderly service units under this Council:

  • HAVEN OF HOPE TSUI LAM DAY TRAINING CENTRE FOR THE ELDERLY
  • HAVEN OF HOPE COMMUNITY CARE SERVICE CENTRE FOR THE ELDERLY
  • HAVEN OF HOPE LOK WAH DAY CARE CENTRE FOR THE ELDERLY
  • HAVEN OF HOPE DAY CARE CUM REHABILITATION CENTRE FOR ELDERLY (HK EAST)
  • HAVEN OF HOPE DAY MEMORY CARE CENTRE FOR ELDERLY (HK WEST)
Recognized by SWD as an approved “Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly” service provider. Case managers will develop appropriate service packages with the elderly and/or their families to respond to the needs of the elderly in accordance with their needs.

Become a donor

The 93-year-old “Grandma Kam”, who had lived in a spiritual and musical residence, including the care services of The Pavilion, was directly managed and operated by the Hong Kong Housing Society in October 2013, but the unit was not purchased by itself, but was purchased for her by the owner, Mr. Ouyang. Mr. Ouyang: “At first I asked Kim if she wanted to retire and live happily, and she thought we hated her.” Mr. Ouyang explained to Kim, their family and Jin’s life for more than 50 years, has been regarded as a relative in general, see her old age has been high, hope she enjoys her old age, live a comfortable life, so he bought a unit to send her. After that, she also enjoyed her new home, a clean environment, a caring and caring carer, and an “old friend” neighbor gossiping with her. In addition, Mr. Ouyang and his family visited Kim every two or three weeks so that she would not feel lonely.

On one occasion, When Kam accidentally fell into the hospital, she moved to the second floor of the Anyue Pavilion to recuperate, Mr. Ouyang described Kim as weak, but still cheerful mood, but also like the surrounding environment. Encouraged by the pastoralism, Kim accepted Jesus Christ as the lord, and even in the face of the threat of death, she was unafraid and even took the initiative to talk to Mr. Ouyang about what was behind her. She felt that all her possessions had been given “three littles” and hoped to “return” her inheritance and savings to him after her death. However, Mr. Ouyang flatly refused, saying, “I don’t want people to think I’m greedy for Kim’s property, so I suggested that she stand up.”
